The Effect of Electrochemical Micro-Milling by Rotating Magnetic Field

H-Y. Shen[1], H-P. Tsui[1], J-C .Hung[1], S-Y. Lin[2], and B-H. Yan[2]
[1]Metal Industries Research and Development Centre, Taichung, Taiwan
[2]National Central University, Chungli, Taiwan

In this work, the process of micro-channels in electrochemical micro-milling by using rotating magnet assisted helical tool is presented. The results show helical tool and Lorentz force of the rotating magnetic field that enhance the renewal of the electrolyte and machining efficiency. The feed rate can be raised under the magnetic field assisted in terms of experimental results; moreover, the ...

Design of High Performance Condenser Microphone Using Porous Silicon

[1]Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, Rajalakshmi Engineering College, Chennai, India
[2]Department of Physics, Rajalakshmi Engineering College, Chennai, India

Porous Silicon (PS) can easily be formed by electrochemical etching of silicon in HF based electrolytes at room temperature. Since, PS is compatible with silicon IC technology; it finds lot of applications in the fabrication of MEMS devices. In the current study, we discuss the design of a condenser microphone using a Silicon/ Porous Silicon composite membrane as a movable plate. The performance ...

Multiphysics System Simulation for MEMS Inertial Sensors

R. Sattler
University of Applied Sciences, Regensburg, Germany

This paper gives an overview of modelling microsensors on geometry and system level. The focus will be on the generation of the multiphysics reduced order system model and the coupling with package and ASIC models. The method is based on modal superposition. This means all the details of the sensor can be considered in a finite element model. The mechanical mode shapes of this model form the ...

Effect of Mass Adsorption on a Resonant NEMS

J. J. Ruz Martinez
Instituto de Microelectronica de Madrid
Tres Cantos
Madrid, Spain

The motion of a resonant NEMS has been widely studied for many different applications such as structural mechanics in engineering, ultra sensitive mass spectrometers or the well known Atomic Force Microscope. The study of the eigenfrequencies of such structures is very important, and nowadays there are good theoretical methods to accurately predict such eigenfrequencies. When a little mass is ...

FEM Based Estimation of Biological Interaction Using a Cantilever Array Sensor

S. Logeshkumar, L. Lavanya, G. Anju, and M. Alagappan
PSG College of Technology
Coimbatore
Tamil Nadu, India

In the model silicon nanorods are designed as cantilever array and coated with thin film of aluminum or aluminum nitride, to be characterized, thus, adding a detectable mass and altering the cantilever resistance to bending. The simulated results show that when films of different thickness are placed on the cantilever, there is a corresponding change in the resonant frequency and the ...

Single Crystal Diamond NEMS Switch

M. Liao
Optical and Electronic Materials Unit
National Institute for Materials Science
Japan

A single-crystal diamond NEMS switch was fabricated while batch production of SCD MEMS/NEMS structures were developed. The diamond NEMS switches exhibit high performance with respect to high controllability, high reproducibility, and good reliability. Modeling and simulations were made that were consistent with experiments.

Numerical Study of Exciton States of Core?shell CdTe/CdS Nanotetrapods by using COMSOL Multiphysics

Y. Yao?and K. Sakoda
National Institute for Materials Science
University of Tsukuba
Japan

This paper showed: * The electronic states of core-shell tetrapod with various shell thickness were calculated. Lowest 20 electron and hole wave functions have A1 or T2 symmetry. * At t=1.2 nm, the carriers separation is not serious, core-shell tetrapod is not apparent type II heterostructure. * Exciton states were investigated as a function of t. For large t, the lowest exciton state has T2 ...

3D Stationary and Temporal Electro-Thermal Simulations of Metal Oxide Gas Sensor Based on a High Temperature and Low Power Consumption Micro-Heater Structure

N. Dufour[1], C. Wartelle[2], P. Menini[1]
[1]LAAS-CNRS, Toulouse, France
[2]Renault, Guyancourt, France

The aim of this work was to simulate the electro-thermal behavior of a micro-hotplate used as a gas sensor, in order to compare the obtained results with a real structure. The structure has been designed in 3D and a stationary and a temporal study has been realized.

Wireless RF Digital System for Mouth-Embedded Multi-Sensor Communication

I.M. Abdel-Motaleb[1], J. Lavrencik [1]
[1]Department of Electrical Engineering, Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, IL, USA

There is urgent need to monitor dental and oral diseases, such as tooth decay, gum diseases, and teeth grinding. Such monitoring can be achieved by embedding sensors in the mouth. This technique faces some difficulties. The first is how the power needed for the operation of the sensors and the associated electronic chips can be generated. This power can be generated using the pressure exerted by ...

Analysis of Electroosmotic Flow of Power-law Fluids in a Microchannel(1D)

K. SriNithin[1]
[1]IIT Kharagpur, Kharagpur, West Bengal, India

Electroosmotic flow of power-law fluids in a slit channel(1D) is analyzed. The governing equations are the Poisson–Boltzmann equation, the Cauchy momentum equation, Generalized Smoluchowski equation and the continuity equation are used to get shear stress, dynamic viscosity, and velocity distribution. Simulations are performed to examine the effects of ?H, flow behavior index, double layer ...
