Galeria de Modelos

The Model Gallery features COMSOL Multiphysics model files from a wide variety of application areas including the electrical, mechanical, fluid, and chemical disciplines. You can download ready-to-use models and step-by-step instructions for building the model, and use these as a starting point for your own modeling work. Use the Quick Search to find models relevant to your area of expertise, and login or create a COMSOL Access account that is associated with a valid COMSOL license to download the model files.

Galvanic Corrosion of Magnesium Alloy in Contact with Steel

Magnesium alloys are attractive alternatives as lightweight materials in various fields of engineering. Magnesium is however relatively non-noble and may suffer considerable galvanic corrosion when being used in conjunction with other metals, for instance when mounting an Mg alloy component using steel fasteners. This model example simulates a galvanic corrosion couple consisting of a magnesium ...

Crevice Corrosion of Iron in an Acetic Acid/Sodium Acetate Solution

Mass transport limitations within thin crevices can often result in the local electrochemistry to differ significantly between the crevice opening (mouth) and end (tip), and as a result of the differences in local chemistry, corrosion may occur. This example models crevice corrosion of iron in an acetic acid/sodium acetate solution. The model reproduces the results of Walton.

Voltammetry at a Microdisk Electrode

Voltammetry is modeled at a microelectrode of 10um radius. In this common analytical electrochemistry technique, the potential at a working electrode is swept up and down and the current is recorded. The current-voltage waveform ("voltammogram") gives information about the reactivity and mass transport properties of the analyte. Microelectrodes are popular in electroanalysis because they ...

Isolator Thickness Effect on Galvanic Corrosion Mitigation

The use of Aluminum (Al) isolator is a commonly employed mitigation strategy for galvanic corrosion between magnesium alloy (Mg) and mild steel (MS). The present model demonstrates the effect of Al isolator thickness on galvanic corrosion severity using a parametric study. The electrode kinetics is implemented here using the experimental polarization data available in literature.

Galvanized Nail

This tutorial example serves as an introduction to the Corrosion Module and models the metal oxidation and oxygen reduction current densities on the surface of a galvanized nail, surrounded by a piece of wet wood, which acts as electrolyte. The protecting zinc layer on the nail is not fully covering, so that at the tip of the nail the underlaying iron surface is exposed. First the electrolyte ...

Buoyancy–driven μPCR for DNA Amplification

Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is one of the most effective methods in molecular biology, medical diagnostics, and biochemical engineering in amplifying a specific sequence of DNA. There has been a great interest in developing portable PCR-based lab-on-a-chip systems for point-of-care applications and one strategy that seems very promising is natural convection-based PCR. This model studies ...
